Michael A. Montgomery
Senior Pastor
Born and raised in Carroll County, Virginia, Mike grew up in a Christian home but never anticipated being a preacher. He graduated in 1991 from Eastern Kentucky University and began a career as a Probation and Parole Officer. However, on October 12, 2012 Mike was ordained into the ministry of preaching the gospel. He dedicated his life to pastoral ministry. He graduated in May 2015 with a Master of Arts in Christian Studies from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
In July 2014, God led Mike and his family to First Baptist Church of Independence, located in Independence, Virginia where Mike is the senior pastor. Mike also continues to pursue his Master of Divinity at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Mike and Becky where married in February 1992 and have two children, Mikayla and Makenzie. Mike enjoys spending time camping with his family, as well as, hunting and fishing. Through cooperation with First Baptist Church of Independence Mike seeks to be a disciple of Jesus Christ who seeks to make other disciples of Jesus Christ.
Lynn Roberts
Music Director
Lynn Roberts is a native of Grayson County. She is a graduate of Bluefield College where she received a Music Education Degree with concentrations in Piano and Voice. She lives just outside of Independence, VA, and she teaches General Music and Chorus in the Grayson County School System. On a weekly basis, she teaches approximately 500 students ranging in age from Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade. The four schools where she provides musical instruction are Independence Elementary, Grayson Highlands, Independence Middle, and Grayson County High.
Lynn has attended First Baptist Church of Independence since she was a child, and she joined the church when she was in her early teens. She has provided music there since she was thirteen (only taking off a total of three years.) She began participating in Worship leadership as the church's Piano Accompanist, and she eventually became the Choir Director. She now leads the Worship services in a combination of traditional and contemporary music.
Lynn loves living in the beautiful mountains of Southwestern VA where the scenery is superior and the people are kind and friendly. She also enjoys traveling, reading, movies, photography, making crafts, spending time with family and friends, and loving on her pets. She gives thanks to the Lord for blessing her life, and all her praise goes to the Heavenly Father for His gracious mercy and unending love. - Jeremiah 29:11
